Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring group of sugar molecules (polysaccharides) renowned for its exceptional ability to retain moisture—binding over 1,000 times its weight in water. Acting like a sponge, it creates volume, supports skin structure, and provides hydration. Found throughout the body in areas such as the skin, eyes, connective tissues, and joint synovial fluid, it plays a vital role in keeping skin plump, and hydrated, and aiding in wound repair and tissue regeneration. 

Profhilo is a unique injectable treatment that contains 64mg of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) in a 2ml pre-loaded syringe. It uses two types of HA:

• Low molecular weight HA (32mg): This type deeply hydrates the skin and kickstarts collagen and elastin production, essential for improving skin elasticity and firmness.
• High molecular weight HA (32mg): This type supports the low molecular weight HA by acting as a framework, helping to rebuild and rejuvenate the skin.

Profhilo is special because the HA is thermally stabilized, meaning it stays active in the skin for up to 28 days. During this time, it stimulates the production of four types of collagen and elastin, leaving your skin looking smoother, firmer, and more radiant.

This treatment is designed to deliver long-lasting hydration and natural skin rejuvenation, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking to restore their skin’s glow and vitality.

The effects of Profhilo typically last around 6 months, but this can vary depending on factors like your skin type, age, and lifestyle. For the best results, we recommend two sessions spaced 4 weeks apart. Some clients may benefit from a third session, depending on their needs. To maintain your results, top-up treatments every 6-12 months are usually enough to keep your skin looking refreshed and rejuvenated.

To ensure your safety, it’s important to share your medical history, current medications, allergies, and any recent health concerns with your practitioner.

Who Should Avoid Profhilo?
Profhilo may not be suitable if you are:

• Pregnant, undergoing IVF, or breastfeeding.
• Experiencing active skin conditions (e.g., eczema, acne, or cold sores).
• Managing certain poorly controlled medical conditions such as:
  • Diabetes
  • Autoimmune disorders
  • Blood clotting issues
  • Cancer or a weakened immune system

Temporary Delays
In some cases, treatment might be postponed:

• Infections or cold sores: Allow 5-10 days for recovery before treatment.
• Certain medications: Blood thinners (like Aspirin, Warfarin, and NSAIDs) may need to be paused 5 days prior unless prescribed for a medical condition. Ro-Accutane or isotretinoin requires at least 6 months before Profhilo can be safely injected.

Who Should Avoid Treatment Entirely?

• If you’re allergic to bee stings (as the injection uses hyaluronic acid, which may trigger a reaction).
• If you’ve had recent facial surgery, dermal fillers, or permanent facial implants.

Your safety is our priority! If Dr Alya determines that it is unsafe to proceed with the treatment, she will inform you of her decision, and the consultation will conclude without treatment.

1. Pain
   There should be minimal pain, as a numbing cream is applied before treatment. If you experience more discomfort than expected, please contact Dr. Alya to discuss your symptoms.
2. Bruising
   Bruising is common, ranging from small to large, but usually resolves within two weeks.
3. Redness
   It’s normal to experience redness after the needle is used. This usually fades on its own, but if it feels warm or persists, please reach out to Dr. Alya for advice.
4. Swelling
   Swelling is typical, especially on the second day. It should go down on its own.
5. Infection
   The risk of infection is low due to Dr Alya’s high hygiene standards. If the treated areas become hot, red, or swollen, please contact Dr. Alya immediately.
6. Lumps
   Lumps at the injection site are normal and usually disappear within 48 hours. If lumps remain after two weeks, get in touch with Dr Alya for guidance.
7. Vascular Occlusion
   This is a very rare but serious complication where blood flow is restricted to the area, causing pain, colour changes, and poor capillary refill. If you experience these symptoms, immediate treatment is necessary to dissolve the filler.
8. Anaphylaxis
   An allergic reaction to the filler or numbing agent can cause difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, nausea, or vomiting. This is an emergency, and immediate medical attention is required.
9. Tyndall Effect
   Rarely, a blue or grey tint under the skin can occur, which may need treatment to resolve.
10. Cold Sores (Herpes)
    If you develop cold sores after treatment, antiviral medication may be needed. If you are prone to cold sores, be sure to mention them during your consultation so Dr Alya can recommend preventive steps.
11. Blindness & Stroke
    Although extremely rare, these are potential risks with dermal filler treatments.
