PRP is a treatment that involves using a patient's own blood to promote healing and regeneration in various tissues of the body.
PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma, which means that the blood was centrifuged (spun at a certain speed) to separate the red blood cells and plasma (which contains the platelets). Platelets contain growth factors, which are proteins that promote cell growth and tissue regeneration. By injecting the concentrated platelets directly into the affected area, the growth factors are able to stimulate and accelerate the healing process. This also causes the chemoattraction of macrophages and stem cells into the area of trauma, where the stem cells differentiate to heal the affected area.
Ideally, 3 sessions with 4 weeks rest in between, followed by maintenance therapy. However, depending on the type of issue, more treatment would be required to ensure regeneration (i.e. in the case of alopecia). The effect of PRP is long-lasting as it is a treatment of an affected area, nonetheless, a healthy lifestyle should be adopted to ensure that the issues do not recur. The likelihood of PRP being ineffective is <1%, as such, if there are no results seen after 2-3 sessions, you will be informed of the case.
PRP is generally a safe treatment with negligible risks and zero downtime. There are few instances where PRP would be contraindicated. PRP would not be advised in the following situations:
PRP regeneration therapy should be minimal pain (not pain-free) if done correctly and by a trained practitioner, to which Dr Alya dedicates her life. PRP is injected with a fine needle. A numbing cream may be applied to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible. In some instances, a numbing liquid may be applied to help with the numbing process.
It is safe to have your PRP done by a trained medical professional under a regulatory body. Dr Alya operates in Lincoln and is registered with a licence to practice with GMC, insured by INSYNC insurance, and a member of the ACE group.
There are guidelines to follow and adhering to them will make your experience smoother.
The price for PRP treatment starts from £170. The final cost will be discussed towards the end of the consultation.
Every time you step into Linora Aesthetics in Lincoln, you undergo a full consultation, completion of a medical questionnaire (which you have filled in before coming in), and, if needed, a cool-off period before your treatment.
The full consultation involves discussing your needs and a physical examination of the areas in question. This is followed by deciding whether PRP regeneration therapy is beneficial for you. Your concerns are discussed at length. It is also important to discuss realistic expectations of the treatment so that both parties are satisfied with the outcome.
Once the discussion is completed, the medical questionnaire will be reviewed, to ensure that any medications or recent interventions to the areas in question are discussed to minimise the risks. It will also help to formulate a proper treatment plan.
At the end of the consultation, the price of the treatment will be discussed and a cool-off period will be offered if required. At this point, it is up to you to decide whether you want a cool-off period or would like to proceed with the procedure. Once you have made an informed decision, you will sign a consent form electronically. Photographs will be taken as part of the medical record, and for marketing purposes (it is important to inform Dr Alya if this is an issue).
On treatment day, photographs may be taken as well. Once seated, a topical anaesthetic cream will be applied for 20-30 minutes, and then, it will be removed. In the meantime, if make-up is worn, it will be removed, and the skin area being treated will be cleansed and disinfected.
The areas targeted will be marked with a white pencil. Blood will be taken from your vein and will be centrifuged to separate the platelet and red blood cells. PRP treatment takes approximately 1 hour depending on how many areas are being treated. It is important to allow as much time as possible, as Dr Alya's philosophy is that each work should be a work of art.
Once the treatment is complete, the treated area will be cleaned. The results and the bumps at injection sites will be shown to you and discussed to ensure that both Dr Alya and you are satisfied. Before leaving, you will be given the opportunity for a follow-up appointment (usually 4 weeks) for a second PRP session as well as to what post-treatment aftercare involves.
