Microneedling is also known as Percutaneous Collagen Induction Therapy. It is a minimally invasive procedure to treat the skin by creating dermal and epidermal minuscule lesions, which would stimulate the skin to heal itself. Hence, the reparation process leads to the skin looking its healthiest.
The microneedling pen contains sterile needles of varying sizes, number of needles and patterns, which is used to treat various depths of the skin. The injuries caused by needle leads to inflammation of the skin, which triggers an immune response. The healthy surrounding cells are stimulated to start the proliferation of the damaged area. This process leads to the remodelling of the healing skin, which makes the skin appear smooth, bright and refined.
Your skin is unique and will react to microneedle therapy differently than others and will need tailoring. Having said this, a general rule of thumb for best and long-lasting results is to have 3-6 treatment sessions every 2-6 weeks. With proper skincare, your new skin will require fewer microneedling treatments.
Microneedling therapy in itself is very rewarding to the skin. However, when used together with other agents such as PRP, Vitamin C, Hyaluronic acid gel and many others, the efficacy is vastly improved.
There is no specific area for microneedling. It is used to treat damaged skin, be it on the face or the thigh. It is most often used to treat the face but can be equally used for the neck or other damaged areas.
It is essential to be transparent about your past medical history, current and recent medications, allergies and; recent concerns regarding your health for which you went to your GP and/or the Hospital.
There may be instances where treatment may be inappropriate such as Pregnancy, IVF and breastfeeding.
Microneedling therapy is not advised in patients with active skin disease (eczema, psoriasis, herpes, keloids, acne) and certain poorly controlled medical conditions (Diabetes, autoimmune disorders, blood disorders, blood clotting disorder, cancer and/or immunocompromised). If any of the above is applicable, please consult your GP before proceeding with treatment.
There could be situations where treatment may not be suitable immediately; however, it could be possible if specific measures were taken and time has passed. For example, infection (depending on the site and severity- may take 7-10 days to resolve) and Cold sores- may require treatment for 5 days and may need waiting. Medication- anticoagulants do not need stopping as the risk of bleeding is minute and the skincare regime can be continued until treatment day. If you have had recent sun exposure/ tanning, it is best to wait until it has faded away.
It is important to ensure that you have no social engagement or important event for a period of 2 weeks after the treatment. There may be side effects which take longer to resolve and may affect your important events.
IF DR ALYA FEELS IT IS UNSAFE TO PERFORM A PROCEDURE, SHE WILL INFORM YOU OF HER DECISION; AND THE CONSULTATION WILL BE CONCLUDED WITHOUT TREATMENT.
It is safe to have your treatment done by a trained prescriber under a regulatory body. Dr Alya is registered with a licence to practice with GMC, insured by INSYNC insurance and a member of the ACE group.
Microneedling is generally a safe procedure. However, no treatment is without risk, thus, it is important to read the possible side effects below.
There can be some minor discomfort when treating certain areas if done correctly and by a trained practitioner, to which Dr Alya is dedicating her life. A numbing cream will be applied to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible.
The price starts from £100. The final cost will be discussed towards the end of the consultation.
There are guidelines to follow and adhering to them will make your experience smoother.
Every time you step into Linora Aesthetics in Lincoln, you undergo a full consultation, completion of a medical questionnaire (which you have filled in before coming in), and, if needed, a cool-off period before your treatment.
The full consultation involves discussing your needs and a physical examination of the skin areas in question. This is followed by deciding whether microneedling is beneficial for you. The possible complications and risks will also be discussed at length, as well as other concerns that need addressing. It is also important to discuss realistic expectations of the treatment so that both parties are satisfied with the outcome.
Once the discussion is completed, the medical questionnaire will be reviewed, to ensure that any medications or recent interventions to the areas in question are discussed to minimise the risks. It will also help to formulate a proper treatment plan.
At the end of the consultation, the price of the treatment will be discussed and a cool-off period will be offered if required. At this point, it is up to you to decide whether you want a cool-off period or would like to proceed with the procedure. Once you have made an informed decision, you will sign a consent form electronically. Photographs will be taken as part of the medical record, and for marketing purposes (it is important to inform Dr Alya if this is an issue).
On treatment day, photographs may be taken as well. Once seated, if make-up is worn, it will be removed, and the skin area being treated will be cleansed and disinfected.
The microneedling treatment takes from 30 minutes to 1 hour. It is important to allow as much time as possible, as Dr Alya's philosophy is that each work should be a work of art.
Once the treatment is complete, the treated area will be cleaned. The results will be shown to the you and discussed to ensure that both Dr Alya and you are satisfied. Before leaving, you will be given the opportunity for a follow-up appointment (usually 2-4 weeks later) for a second session as well as to what post-treatment aftercare involves.
NB: Dr Alya always prioritises safety and has an emergency kit to handle unexpected side effects.
